Long, strong, gorgeous hair -- as easy as minute rice.
I’m doing WHAT with rice?!
Oh, rice. What can I say about you? Sometimes you’re a tasty little side dish to my meal. Sometimes you help a sister out when there’s a phone-dropped-in-water SOS moment. Sometimes you just sit quietly in your box in my cabinet and collect dust. Whatever the case, I have some serious love for this little multitasking ancient grain. And -- GET THIS -- rice can be used in a very special way that can majorly benefit your hair’s growth, strength, shine and overall health. Listen up:
Rice water rinsing: it’s (been) a thing.
And it’s not a new discovery! Women in ancient China used rice water to bathe their hair and legend has it, some babes boasted 6 foot long strands (WUT.) Results for rinsing hair in rice water include strong regrowth, length retention, increased elasticity, shine and smoothness.
More good news? Rice water works wonders for all textures of hair! It’s packed with yummy nutrients, minerals and vitamins that bond to the hair, including selenium, magnesium, folic acids, vitamins B1 through B6, niacins, and vitamin K. Go ahead and peep the label on some hair vitamins -- you’re likely to see this cast of characters under the ingredients.
Notice how I haven’t mentioned gluten?
There’s a reason. We don’t use wheat proteins in our hair products. We stick to a gluten free regime when it comes to nurturing our hair. Your hair can get all the nutrients it needs the good old-fashioned way, without the added side effects that gluten can cause on the body (reminder: your body INCLUDES YOU HAIR!)
Hair that looks nice? Just add rice.
Ok, ready to give this rice water for hair thing a try? It’s stupid-easy. Here’s the scoop:
- Add a cup of uncooked rice to a bowl
- Stir in some room-temperature water, just to clean the rice of impurities
- Transfer the cleaned rice into a jar with a lid
- Top the jar off with fresh, clean water
- Let rice water sit for an hour or 2, then transfer to a spray bottle
Are you chuckling yet? This rice water hair rinse may be the easiest DIY recipe out there. And affordable, to boot! Next:
- Wash and condition your hair as usual
- Spray hair generously with rice water
- Leave on for up to 20 minutes
- Massage into scalp and hair
- Rinse hair thoroughly with water
That’s it, honey! Sit back and be amazed at the super-simple immediate results!
